This itinerary is a three step one: a long climb, an exciting downhill, and a relaxing lakeside connecting route. The starting point is Maccagno and the direction the Veddasca valley, with great views of Cannobbio from Chiesa di San Rocco. In Forcara, the dirt road that leads to Mount Paglione is exceptionally steep and uneven – you might want to push your bike. It then starts to level out, however, and the route to Mount Covreto is very pleasant. The descent is quite challenging initially but it gets easier once you reach the woods. Then, it gradually gets more complicated again as far as San Abbondio. The Swiss side of the lake front promenade continues on a paved road for about ten kilometres to Maccagno.
